Summary

Daun leilem (Clerodendrum minahassae) is a shrub up to 1-6 meters tall of the Lamiaceae family, native to the Minahasa region and also distributed in Malaysia and the Philippines. Its leaves are a signature seasoning in Manado meat dishes as well as traditional medicine, besides being planted as a living yard fence. Daun leilem is also believed to be antidiabetic and to help lower the risk of coronary heart disease.

Agroecology

Grows at varying elevations of 1-1,324 m above sea level. In Tomohon at elevations of 700-800 m above sea level and Kauditan at 0-240 m above sea level. Requires full sunlight, good drainage, moist soil.

Morphology

  • Stem round, woody, can reach a diameter of 7.5 cm.
  • Leaves elliptical, dark green in color, glossy, slightly astringent and somewhat bitter taste.
  • Flowers tubular arranged in small clusters near the stem tip, narrow long tube, and there are 5 linear lobes drooping downward.

Cultivation

  • Propagated generatively (seed) and vegetatively (stem cuttings and offset separation).
  • Natural pollination with the help of insects as pollinators.

1. Body stamina

  • Prepare 50 g leilem leaves, 25 g fresh spinach.
  • Wash all ingredients thoroughly.
  • Add 200 ml water, blend all ingredients with a blender, strain the juice.
  • Drink all at once.
