Its strikingly yellow flowers are popular as cut flowers and yard ornamentals. In China and East Asia, lanceleaf coreopsis is traditionally used to reduce fever and treat diarrhea.

Agroecology

Coreopsis lanceolata is usually found growing in open woodland, grassland, savanna, and disturbed areas. Often found forming fairly large colonies along roadsides and in old fields. Prefers places with direct sunlight to partial shade conditions. Able to grow well in sandy soil, clay loam, and poorly drained soil, and can also thrive in poor (infertile) soil conditions. Its growth prefers soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0-7.0), and has tolerance for heat, humidity, and drought (moderate level).
