Cymbidium finlaysonianum Lindl.

Anggrek pohon kala (Cymbidium finlaysonianum) is an epiphytic orchid with stems 24-78 cm long of the Orchidaceae family, native to West Kalimantan and distributed as far as the Philippines and Thailand. Malay healers traditionally used it to remove curses and restore health. This orchid is also popular as an ornamental because it is easy to care for, and is believed to help treat burns and fever.

This orchid grows wild in slightly open areas, in teak and mixed forests. It grows at elevations of 5-300 m above sea level. Requires full sunlight to partial shade.

• Roots clinging roots and aerial roots. The clinging roots have a larger, somewhat flattened diameter with a double meristem tissue thickening that is whitish in color. Pseudobulb flattened, covered by leaf sheaths.
• Leaves ribbon-shaped, thick and stiff. Leaf width between 2-3 cm. Surface smooth, edges flat, thin, rounded tip and without a petiole.
• Flowers arranged in a raceme 1 m long. Several racemes emerge from one clump. There are 15-30 florets per raceme. 6 cm in diameter. Sepals lance-shaped, forming a star. Yellow color tinged with reddish. The lip is maroon with a striking white pattern.
• Fruit a yellowish-green capsule, 5-8 cm long and 1-2 cm wide.
• Seeds powder-like and white in color.

• Propagated using seed and pseudobulb.
• If the pseudobulb has formed a large clump, it can be divided, with the bulb and root section planted directly in a pot.

Treats wounds, burns, earache, colds, as a laxative, boils, vomiting, fever, digestive disorders, sprains, cracked bones, and has antimicrobial activity.

• Prepare the whole plant then wash thoroughly.
• Weigh and dry using a dryer.
• Once dry, grind into powder. Store in an airtight container.
