Donella lanceolata (Blume) Aubrév.

Andalehet (Donella lanceolata) is a tree up to 30 meters tall of the Sapotaceae family, distributed from Africa-Madagascar to North Australia, though in Indonesia it is only found in North Tapanuli. Its fruit is edible, while its wood is harvested for local use. Andalehet is traditionally believed to help prevent dental caries and boost immunity.

The habitat of the andalehet plant is lowland rainforest from sea level up to elevations of 700 m above sea level (2,300 feet). This plant grows in subtropical, temperate, and tropical climate regions. Requires partial shade and moderate sunlight and prefers loamy, peat, sandy, and loamy soil types, with a neutral pH.

• Stem woody, cylindrical, bark gray or pale brown, smooth, vertically cracked, inner bark fibrous with milky exudate, branches horizontal.
• Leaves simple, alternate, scattered, unclearly spread, protruding, petiole 3-10 mm long, slender, elliptical, oblong, elliptical-oblong, oblong-lance-shaped, tapering base, tapering leaf tip, smooth and glossy when mature, parallel leaf fibers.
• Flowers bisexual, green or greenish-white, in axillary fascicles, stalk 3-5 mm long.
• Fruit a berry, round shaped, 3-5 cm in diameter, yellowish-green in color.
• Seeds yellowish-brown in color, subellipsoid, solid, glossy.

• Propagated using seed (generative).
• The plant flowers to fruiting in April-November.
