Lannea coromandelica (Houtt.) Merr.
Summary
Daun kerundong (Lannea coromandelica) is an upright woody tree 5-10 meters tall of the Anacardiaceae family, distributed from South China to Vietnam and Cambodia. In India, this plant is widely used as medicine, while its young leaves and sprouts are commonly eaten as a raw vegetable. Its sap even serves as a natural adhesive, besides kerundong being traditionally believed to relieve toothache and dysentery.
Agroecology
Grows well in tropical and subtropical areas at elevations of 100-1,800 m above sea level, temperature 32-40°C, annual rainfall 1,200-2,000 mm/year, pH 5-6.5. This plant can be found in lowland and hill forest areas.
Morphology
- Root a taproot.
- Stem woody, brown with white patterns, rough and ridged surface.
- Leaves ovate shaped, tapering tip and blunt base, compound, pinnate veins, green in color, smooth surface, flat edges.
- Flowers compound, panicle-shaped, light green sepals, 4 greenish-yellow petals.
- Fruit a berry, oblong round, green in color.
- Seeds round, white in color.
Cultivation
- Propagated by seed and stem cuttings.
- Stem cuttings are done by taking stems from large branches.

Saponin, tannin, phenolic, alkaloid, steroid, flavonoid, terpenoid, polyphenol, β-sitosterol, ellagic acid, quercetin, leucocyanidin, leucodelphinidin, isoquersitrin.

Simplisia
