Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a tree up to 30 meters tall of the Rubiaceae family, native to Tuana Tuha, East Kalimantan, also growing wild in Thailand and Malaysia. The Dayak Bakumpai community in East Barito has used it as traditional medicine for generations. Because it has opioid and stimulant properties, kratom use is now restricted in several countries, although it is believed to help with addiction and boost energy.

Kratom is a wild plant and grows well on wet or moist and fertile land with full sun exposure.

• Root a taproot.
• Stem straight, branching, woody, gray in color.
• Leaves dark glossy green, growing up to 14-20 cm long and 7-12 cm wide, leaf shoots red in color.
• Flowers small, growing singly on each twig, round-shaped, powdery and serrated, white in color.

• Propagated generatively (through seed) and vegetatively using shoot cuttings.
• Harvest time 6-9 months after planting.

Alkaloid (mitragynine, 7-hydroxymitragynine, paynantheine, speciogynine, speciociliatine), flavonoid, terpenoid, saponin, polyphenol compounds.

Addresses drug addiction, boosts endurance, energy booster, prevents and treats depression, remedy for diarrhea, has antihypertensive activity, reduces pain and speeds up wound healing.

• Sort kratom leaves then wash with clean water then drain.
• Dry using an oven (temperature 40°C).
• Grind kratom leaves to make extract using a grinding machine (grinder) into a coarse powder.
