Jukut siraru (Ophioglossum vulgatum) is a fern 0.25 meters tall from the Ophioglossaceae family that originates from Europe to North Africa and West Asia. In Britain, its leaf extract is known as 'Green Oil of Charity', while in Northern Italy it is soaked in olive oil to make a wound poultice ointment. Jukut siraru is traditionally used for dermatological, hemostatic, and digestive purposes.

Jukut siraru prefers moist, well-drained soil and prefers soil conditions with an acidity level between 5.5-6.5. Good temperature for growth ranges from 12-18 °C. However, this plant is also resistant to temperatures around -15 °C. Jukut siraru also prefers places with direct sunlight conditions or partial shade.

• Roots thick and not much branched.
• Stem upright, short underground, still having a protostele inside, but differentiating in its vascular bundles upward, 0.3-1 cm in diameter. On the stem each year there is only one long-stalked leaf with a membrane-like leaf sheath.
• Leaves usually have a special part for assimilation, and another fertile part that produces reproductive organs. The fertile leaf part is panicle- or spike-shaped and emerges from the stalk, from the middle, or from the edge of the sterile leaf. Sporangium large, nearly round, without an annulus, its wall strong, opening with a transverse or longitudinal crack. Ophioglossaceae are isosporous. Prothallus monoecious, contains no chlorophyll, in the soil, and lives as a saprophyte with the help of mycorrhizal fungi.

• Propagation using spores, best sown as soon as ripe on the surface of sterile, humus-rich soil. Keep the compost moist, preferably by placing a plastic bag over the pot. Keep the pot in moist conditions until the plant grows well. Do not plant outside until the fern is at least 2 years old.
• Division of the underground rhizome is done carefully because the roots are fragile.

A good remedy for wounds and also used in treating skin ulcers, as a treatment for internal bleeding and bruises. Has antiseptic, antidiarrheal, detergent, emetic, hemostatic, styptic, and vulnerary activity.

• Prepare jukut siraru leaves, wash clean with running water.
• Dry under sunlight or with an oven at 40 °C until moisture content reaches 10%.
• Blend into powder.
• Store in a clean, airtight container.
