Summary
Pachira (Pachira aquatica) is a tree up to 23 meters tall of the Malvaceae family, originating from Central and South America, popular in Asia especially Taiwan under the nickname 'money tree' because it is believed to bring good luck. Commonly shaped into bonsai as an ornamental plant, its flowers, leaves, and nut-flavored seeds can also be eaten. Traditionally, pachira is also believed to be a blood tonic and help lower blood pressure.
Agroecology
Generally found on riverbanks, lakeshores, mangrove and forest edges, moist soil. Grows well at elevations of 0-1,300 m above sea level, annual temperature 22-28°C, average rainfall 2,000-5,000 mm/year, pH 6-8.5. Prefers sandy or sandy clay soil.
Morphology
- Roots taproot.
- Stem straight, cylindrical, relatively smooth bark, brown to gray in color, young branches green, spreading branches.
- Leaves green, glossy, palmately compound like cassava leaves.
- Flowers hermaphrodite, bell-shaped, consisting of 180-250 stamens in each bloom, calyx like a banana peel.
- Fruit a woody pod, oval, green, 15 cm long divided into five internal chambers.
Cultivation
- Generative (seed): soak the seed in water for 24 hours. Place the seed evenly in the soil, cover with 1 cm of soil. Place in a bright, warm location. Transplant to the field or pot promptly once the seedling starts to grow larger.
- Vegetative (stem cuttings): cut a stem 10-15 cm long, place it in water or soil immediately. If placed in water, wait until roots grow, then plant in soil.

Simplisia
- Wash mature pachira leaves thoroughly.
- Dry in the sun for 5-7 days or use an oven at 40°C until the moisture content reaches 10%.

1. Kidney Pain
- Cut 1 pachira fruit into 4 parts then wash thoroughly.
- Boil with 1 cup of water for 5 minutes over low heat.
- Strain the concoction then drink before breakfast for 3 consecutive days.
2. Tonic Solution, Refresher, Stomach Ache and Headache Remedy
- Take a 2.5 x 10 cm piece of pachira bark, wash thoroughly.
- Boil with 750 ml water for 10 minutes.
- Drink 6 times a day with a dose of 125 ml each time.
