Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq.) Kummer
Summary
Jamur tiram putih (Pleurotus ostreatus) is a fungus from the Pleurotaceae family first cultivated in China in the 20th century, entering Indonesia in Wonosobo in 1980. Rich in nine essential amino acids and unsaturated fats, this mushroom also contains natural cholesterol-lowering lovastatin. White oyster mushroom is believed to help address diabetes and digestive disorders.
Agroecology
Cultivation of white oyster mushroom can be done optimally throughout the year on land located at 550-800 m asl. Incubation temperature (mycelium growth) of oyster mushroom ranges between 22-28 °C with 60-80% humidity, fruiting body formation temperature 16-22 °C with 80-90% humidity. Temperature and humidity regulation can be done by spraying clean water into the room. Air circulation must be sufficient and the light intensity needed during growth is about 10%. Oyster mushroom growth should be made to resemble its natural habitat conditions. Materials as growing media are sawdust, rice bran as a source of carbohydrates and nitrogen, lime as a mineral source and pH regulator (pH 6-7), and gypsum as a mineral additive material and to strengthen the media, and the media water is regulated up to 50-60% so the mushroom mycelia can grow and absorb nutrients well.
Morphology
- Mycelium shaped like coarse white fiber.
- Stalk can be short or long (2-6 cm) depending on the environmental and climatic conditions affecting its growth. This stalk supports the cap somewhat laterally at the edge or eccentrically (somewhat toward the center).
- Fruiting body that grows open forms a shallow funnel like an oyster shell. This fruiting body has a cap (pileus) and stalk (stipe/stalk). The pileus resembles an oyster shell 5-5 cm in size and the underside surface is layered like gills, white and soft.
Cultivation
Propagation using spores.
Chemical Content
Pleuran, statin (lovastatin), riboflavin, nicotinic acid, pantothenate, biotin, essential amino acids (lysine, methionine, tryptophan, threonine, valine, leucine, isoleucine, histidine, phenylalanine).
Benefits
Treats liver disease, diabetes, anemia, high cholesterol, digestive disorders, helps with weight loss. Has anticancer, antitumor, and antioxidant activity.
