Summary
Jombang (Taraxacum officinale) is a herb 10-25 cm tall of the Asteraceae family, native to Europe and Western Asia, now often dominating open areas around the world. Its leaves can be eaten as a side dish, while its flowers serve as a natural yellow dye for beverages and fabric. Jombang is traditionally believed to help the liver and gallbladder expel metabolic waste.
Agroecology
This plant grows rapidly and wild in moist highlands, mountain slopes, fields and roadsides with a cool climate. Prefers humus-rich, well-drained soil with a neutral to alkaline pH and gets full sunlight or shade.
Morphology
- Root a taproot, yellowish-brown.
- Leaves single, pointed tip, oblong, pinnate, serrated edges, green covered with fine white hairs, base narrowing resembling a petiole.
- Flowers compound, long-stalked covered with fine hair, ridged, disc-shaped corolla, yellow in color.
- Fruit white tube-shaped.
- Seeds rice-like, elongated flat, finely hairy like yellow velvet.
Cultivation
Propagated by seed which can be pre-sown or planted directly in the field. Naturally propagated with the help of wind carrying jombang seeds.

- Grind fresh jombang herb or root until fine.
- Apply to the affected area.

- Boil fresh jombang leaves as needed.
- Use to steam the face.
3. Diuretic
- Boil 25 g fresh jombang leaves with 2 glasses of water for 15 minutes, once cool then strain.
- Drink all at once.
